Martin James "Marty" McCarthy

Martin James McCarthy, affectionately known as Marty, passed away on August 28, 2023, at the age of 88 in Crete, IL. Marty was born on April 8, 1935, in Chicago, IL. He was a beloved individual, cherished by all who knew him. His infectious laugh brought joy to everyone's lives.
Marty proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1962. He was a dedicated member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union and traveled worldwide constructing McDonald's Restaurants. Marty's craftsmanship and dedication were admired by his colleagues.
In his free time, Marty had a passion for music. He played various instruments, including the banjo, bass, and mandolin. He played music with his friends "The Funtimer's" at various farmer's markets and nursing homes. Marty's talent and love for music brought him immense happiness throughout his life.
Marty will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his son Frank (Julie) Sharpe, daughter Patricia Sharpe, son John Sharpe, sister Joan (Vince) Murphy, sister Mary McCarthy, and the "Team Martin" Carole Sharpe, Bob Rossi, and Julie Johnson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Frank Sharpe, Lenny (Rebecca) Cribari, Dana (Josh) Wierzba, Jason (Danielle) Sharpe, and seven great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Marty was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth McCarthy and brother Bernard (Patricia) McCarthy.
Marty worshipped at Holy Name Catholic Church and enjoyed playing music with the choir during mass.
Friends may greet the family on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 9 am to 10 am at Holy Name Catholic Church, located at 11000 W. 133rd Ave. Cedar Lake, IN. A Mass will follow at 10 am. Interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Marty's memory.
Marty McCarthy will forever be remembered for his warm heart, infectious laugh, and dedication to his country, craft, and family. May he rest in peace.
