Martin J. Ryan Sr., a loving husband, father, and Pop Pop, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 10, 2026 at the age 93.
Marty was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 30, 1932 to Thomas John Ryan and Mary Elizabeth (Harper) Ryan. He is preceded in death by his five older siblings, Thomas Ryan Jr., Joseph Ryan, Mary (Ryan) Wasikonis, Anna (Ryan) Procopio, and Catherine (Ryan) Wheeler.
Marty was a proud veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, where he received the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Afterwards, he had a successful career in the manufacturing and engineering industry.
Marty married the love of his life, Theresa (Mallamaci) Ryan, on September 15, 1955. They spent cherished time together at their homes in Philadelphia and North Wildwood for nearly 50 years before Theresa passed.
Marty is survived by his three children, Diane Buschmann, Elaine Tracy (Michael), and Martin J. Ryan Jr. (Brigid). He was the cherished Pop to eight grandchildren, Amanda, Taylor, Steven, Emma, Alexandra, Kelly Anne, Marissa, and Jacklyn and to five great grandchildren, Tessa, Everett, Theodore, Matthew, and Layla. Marty is also survived by his dear friend and companion, Mary Patricia DeVecchis.
Marty was known as a skillful handyman, a classic one-line guy, and the best Pop.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 on Friday, January 16, at 10:30 AM. Family will receive relatives and friends from 9 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will follow Mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Cheltenham Avenue.
