ST. PARIS – Marty Carnes, 75, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2026.
Marty was born to Melvin and Ruth Carnes on June 22, 1950. He spent the greater part of his career working as a crop insurance adjuster, as well as volunteering at the St. Paris Fire Department during his early years, both roles that reflected his strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to helping others.
Marty was a devoted father and grandfather.
He is survived by his son, Zach (Mallory) Carnes, step-son, Jamie Atkins, and his beloved grandchildren, Emma Carnes and Allison "Allie" Carnes, who brought him immense pride and joy.
He is also survived by his brother, Roger (Bonita) Carnes, and five cherished nieces and nephews.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marsha (Ed) Copley and niece Marcy Copley.
Marty lived a life guided by kindness and love for others. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. His favorite pastimes included horses, camping, and riding side-by-sides—often creating lasting memories with those closest to him.
Marty will be remembered for his warm heart, steady presence, and the love he shared so freely with his family and friends. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026 at ATKINS, SHIVELY & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, St. Paris, Ohio.
Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Michael Maurice officiating.
