Born July 21, 1938 to Willis Alvin and Allene Hamilton in Wake County, NC. Marty died on December 21, 2025, after a long and satisfying life in Santa Rosa.
He leaves behind two children, Janet Hamilton of Portland, OR and her husband, Rob Lothrop, and Brad Hamilton of San Jose, as well as many friends and loved ones, but especially Maria Lucidi, his companion of some 23 years, and his late wife, Beverly Everitt Hamilton, his high school sweetheart, friend of 41 years and wife of 36 years, who preceded him very suddenly in 1995. Marty would be the first to admit that it was a loss he never really overcame.
Marty grew up in Durham, NC, was a proud graduate of Duke University (Go, Blue Devils!!) in 1960 and migrated to California in 1960 where for the next 35 years made his home with Bev in San Francisco, So. SF, Antwerp, Belgium, and San Mateo for 29 years before moving to Bodega Bay in 1989. Marty moved to Santa Rosa in 2002 where he shortly joined his beloved Fountaingrove Golf/Athletic Club (an association that had begun in 1979) and began a mediocre but fun career as a golfer; Marty was a somewhat better tennis player, scoring his first trophy when he was fourteen.
Earlier Marty had thoroughly enjoyed 21 years as a high school teacher in So. SF, and after that another 21 years as a financial advisor and planner, with many clients as school teachers. Early in his post-college career Marty became a very beloved guitar player and singer of folk and popular songs. Throughout his life he was a devotee of many kinds of music, being among other things, an enthusiastic supporter of the Santa Rosa Symphony, the SF Ballet, and many other worthwhile charities, including The Southern Poverty Law Center.
Marty was an avid traveller. His travels took him to nearly all of the 50 states and some 30 trips to Europe and Asia, many of those with Bev, and several later with good friend and partner, Maria Lucidi. He never forgot the earlier wonderful trips introducing Europe to dear friend and companion, Elaine. But with Maria the travels included Ireland, England, Scotland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Chile, Antarctica, Argentina, Uruguay, Panama Canal, Columbia, Puerto Rico, Baja, Acapulco, Alaska, British Columbia, Shetland Islands and New Zealand.
His travels enabled him to enjoy friendships with people all over including Reinier(now deceased) and Moto in Kyoto (orig. in Holland), Alex and Elaine in the UK, Pete and Lynn in Austin, and especially Judy and her late husband Michel in San Francisco and Paris.
Marty was a proud Democrat all his life and a strong supporter of Progressive causes. He enjoyed dinner parties where there might be serious discussion of important political issues.
He is preceded in death by all his brothers, Bill, Bob, John and Charles, and his best friend Buck Adams.
He leaves behind his two dearest friends, Sandi Adams and Peggy Hansen, wonderful and delightfully supportive friends of over 50 years as well as many other great friends, including Vinnie and Joanne, Elaine, Pete and Lynn, Don and Judy.
Finally, an especially heartfelt farewell to his longtime partner of 23 years, Maria Lucidi......I always loved you more than you knew, honey.
