Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Charity Baptist Church, 954 Lake Harbour Drive, Ridgeland, Mississippi. HerFinal Resting Place will be at Mt. Charity Church Cemetery, 954 Lake Harbour Drive, Ridgeland, Mississippi.
Mrs. Marva Ella Myers Coleman was born on March 27, 1936, in Ridgeland, Mississippi, to the late Houston Floyd Myers, Jr. and Ida Mae Perkins. She declared her belief in Christ as her Savior, received baptism at Simon Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and later moved her membership to Mt. Charity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R. L. Luckett
Marva graduated from Tougaloo Preparatory School in 1954 and completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Tougaloo Southern Christian College in 1958. During her time in college, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Marva continued her education at Jackson State University obtaining a Specialist Degree in Health Education.
Mother Coleman was employed with Madison County and Canton Public School District for over 40 years. She taught various classes including Physical Education, Science, Health and Drug Awareness. Mother Coleman took great satisfaction in coaching the Rosa Scott School girls' basketball team, guiding them to numerous victories. In the 1960s, she devoted herself to teaching an After-hours Adult Literacy Program that enabled many local adults to read and write.
In 1955, Marva married Roy Coleman-a union that laid the foundation for a close-knit family. Together, they welcomed three children: Roy, Glenn, and Sheila, whose lives would become an important part of Marva's enduring legacy. Their home welcomed everyone, providing warmth, support, and comfort. Mother Coleman's generosity fostered an environment of love, faith, hope and Kool-Aid, impacting all who visited. Her legacy of compassion and love will live on in the hearts of those she touched in life.
Mother Marva was a dedicated member of Mt. Charity Baptist Church, serving as the Director of the following ministries: Youth, Vacation Bible School, Chrisitan Education, Mother, and Marriage. Other church affiliations include: a faithful Sunday School Teacher, Church Announcer, Finance Committee, Sanctuary Choir and Women's Ministry and Church Historian. She also a member of Heroine of Jericho Precious Jewels Court.
She was preceded in death by parents: Houston and Ida Myers, her husband Roy L. Coleman, sons Roy and Glenn Coleman, granddaughter Katilyn Coleman, brothers Floyd Ellis and Carl Emmett Myers, and sister Nancy Myers.
Mother Marva Coleman graciously surrendered to the Most High on Wednesday September, 24, 2025, leaving to cherish her memories, a devoted daughter Sheila Wilkerson of Ridgeland, MS, brother Russell (Vicki) Myers of Byron, Illinois, grandsons Joshua Coleman of Nashville, TN and Glenn Coleman, Jr. of Memphis, TN, granddaughters Christian West Coleman of Memphis, TN and Keely Coleman of Smyrna, GA. Sister in Law, Bertha Myers of Wheaton, Illinois, and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends..
