Marvin Bowen Obituary

Marvin Bowen Jr.

February 23, 1939 - February 10, 2026

Marvin Maxwell Bowen, Jr., age 86, of Fauquier County, VA, passed away on February 10, 2026, at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton, VA. Mr. Bowen was born February 23, 1939, in Remington, VA, the eldest son of the late Mary A. James Bowen and Marvin M. Bowen, Sr. He was a graduate of Cedar Lee High School. Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Betty Horner Bowen; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bowen, and his grandchildren, Maxwell F. Bowen Wingrave and Mary M. Bowen Wingrave, as well as his sister (Mary Owen) and brother (Jimmy Bowen). Mr. Bowen is also survived by a step-daughter, Debbie Tharp; two step-grandchildren (Amanda and Brandon Tharp) and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Mark Tharp. Mr. Bowen has always been interested in farming. In his youth, he was active in 4H and the FFA and worked with his father on the farm. In the 1960's, Mr. Bowen purchased Grassdale Farm, which has been in the family since the 1700's, and rebuilt the main farm house for his home. Mr. Bowen began with a few hand-milked Holsteins, built a dairy parlor, and milked a herd of several hundred dairy cows prior to retiring in 1997. After retirement, Mr. Bowen raised Angus beef cows, continued growing crops and added small ruminants to the farm. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and served in multiple roles over the years, including Senior Warden. Mr. Bowen had a passion for ancestry and local history and enjoyed sharing these stories with old and new friends. Additional hobbies included being outdoors and taking long scenic car trips – up and down the east coast and out west. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Remington, VA, followed by a service at 11 a.m. with Fr. Michael Guy and Bishop Gulick. Mr. Bowen will be interred at the Remington Cemetery following the service. Donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
