Marvin Burton Cornish, Sr., 92, of Easton, Maryland passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025 at his home in Westminster, Maryland surrounded by his loving family. He is the son of the late Andrew Davidson and the late Hazel Smith; and was raised by his parents the late John and Mary Cornish. Marvin was the beloved husband of Sharon Elizabeth Cornish, to whom he married on April 20, 1984.
Marvin graduated from Robert Moton High School on the Eastern Shore, with the class of 1951. He furthered his education at Maryland State Teachers College (now Bowie State University), where he earned his Bachelor's in Education. Marvin served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve and retired as a Carroll County School Teacher after 31 years.
His passion was music, and he enjoyed sharing his talents with others. Marvin was a Humanitarian, Servant Leader and gifted Pianist and Director of Music for Mt. Gregory United Methodist Church in Cooksville, Maryland for over 60 years. He played for multiple choirs, and taught piano lessons to children and adults. He also enjoyed planting flowers in his yard and introduced the craft to many of the neighborhood children.
Surviving in addition to his wife Sharon, are his sons Marvin Burton Cornish, Jr. (Wife: Dr. Tamika Cornish) and Daren Dorm (Wife: Toi Dorm), daughter Karen Smith (Husband: Hank Smith), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will welcome friends on Friday, November 28, 2025 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster, Maryland. Homegoing services will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 beginning at 1pm at First Presbyterian Church at 65 Washington Road in Westminster, Maryland followed by a repast at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 467, 519 Poole Road, Westminster, Maryland.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Garrison Forest at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marvin's name to The Dorsey Education Fund can be mailed to The Dorsey Education Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 12, Perry Hall, MD, 21128-0012 or via Cash App at $crisnick. Donations to the Mt. Gregory United Method Church E.E. Arter Scholarship Fund should be made through Ms. Credella Duvall, [email protected].

What a beautiful soul he was . I attended Taneytown Elementary School in the 60´s and he was teaching 6th grade . I would over the years run into him and he loved to reminisce about people and life experiences. RIP
