Marvin Curtis Obituary

Marvin Sam Curtis, of Selbyville, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2025, at age 65. Marvin was born on September 8, 1960, in Maryland, and graduated from Lignanore High School in 1978. He was the son of the late Frank Jr. and Mary Lou Curtis.

Raised in Maryland, Marvin was a well-known and deeply respected member of the Frederick County community. Marvin was a real estate appraiser and Partner in Hutzell, Curtis & Sheetz. He was a Frederick County 911 Dispatcher & Maryland Christmas Show Manager.

Marvin attended and completed the course from Missouri Auction School in auctioneering and auction sales management. He proudly served as Immediate Past President of The Frederick County Auctioneers Association and was the owner of Curtis Auctions, a role that reflects both his entrepreneurial spirit and his genuine love for connecting with people.

Marvin was also a dedicated leader at the New Market Grange. He served on the Executive Committee and was fondly known as the Gatekeeper, a position that spoke to his dependability and welcoming presence. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Food Committee for the Grange Food Booth at The Great Frederick Fair, contributing countless hours to one of Frederick County's most cherished traditions.

He was a proud Master Mason of Columbia Lodge 58 in Frederick, member of Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, and a member of the Libertytown/Unionville Lions Club, organizations that align with his lifelong commitment to service, fellowship, and community involvement.

Marvin was the former owner of Liberty Road Seafood and Steak, a business remembered by many for its warmth, quality, and sense of community.

Outside of work and service, Marvin had a passion for building and fixing homes, which led him to his beloved job at Lowe's as a pro salesman. He also had a passion for auctioneering, a pursuit that perfectly matched his outgoing personality, quick wit, and enjoyment of people.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Curtis, son, Zane Womack, and he shared a special bond with Kellyn and Marcus Montgomery, Jill Arnold, Jeb Cliber, Ben and Claire Smith, as well as extended family and many dear friends.

A service celebrating Marvin's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in New Market, Maryland. Lunch and sharing of memories of Marvin will follow the service on Saturday at the New Market Grange Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be sent to the New Market Grange with the notation "In Memory of Marvin Curtis" and sent to P.O. Box 83, New Market, MD 21774. The donations will fund youth agricultural programs and the purchase of a memorial to be placed at the Great Frederick Fairgrounds, a lasting tribute to Marvin's devotion to the community he loved.

He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

We last saw Marvin at Lowe's, at which time he presented us with his Lowe's business card. He told us about commuting back and forth to DE, but to call him if we had any problems re: the store and he would take care of it. He looked very happy. I will never forget him caring for my parents in law, seeing to their needs, and keeping them safe. He was a stable influence for many years to Jeb, Ben and Claire and again, actively participated in care giving and raising them to adulthood. Thank you and Bless you, Marvin. Sincere sympathy to your loved ones, may the Good Lord comfort and care for them now and forever.

Marvin's mom was cashier at my school & later on I became friends with his sister Greta. I use to hang around their house on evenings & some weekends. I remember everyone watching "Happy Days" together. It was always fun over their house. I'm still friends with Greta & was sorry to hear Marvin had passed away. I'm praying for his family & friends.
