Marvin Gilbert, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Sunday, November 30, 2025. He was born and raised in Louisiana as the second child of Rodger Gilbert and Leona Graham Gilbert. Marvin moved to Columbus, Ohio, shortly after high school, beginning a life marked by service, hard work, and a deep love of the outdoors.
Marvin served in the United States Army before discovering his passion for the open road. He went on to build a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver, a profession he took great pride in. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and wisdom with others and was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Outside of work, Marvin was a true outdoorsman who found joy in fishing, hunting, and boating.
After settling in Columbus, Marvin became a member of Love Zion Baptist Church, where he enjoyed volunteering and supporting the church community. He was generous with his time, talent, and treasure, and will be fondly remember for his warmth, humility, and the comforting presence he carried wherever he went.
Marvin was briefly married to Margaret Ann, and to this union was born one daughter, Angela Renee Gilbert. Later, he was blessed with 24 years of marriage to his devoted wife, Climmie Magby Gilbert, until her passing in 2007.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother, Charlie; his daughter, Angela (Matthew); and his beloved wife, Climmie.
Marvin leaves to honor and cherish his memory three brothers: Roger of Minden, Louisiana; Alvin (Mary) of Monroe, Louisiana; and Patrick (Ernestine) of Houston, Texas; one step-son, Juan Keith Easley; son-in-law, Matthew (Angela) Jones Jr.; two grandchildren, Alicia and Matthew III; three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Juan Keith II and Erieona Lachea; three great-grandchildren with a fourth on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends throughout the country.
Marvin will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love of the outdoors, his pride in his work and family, and the steady wisdom he shared with all who knew him. His legacy of strength, resilience, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
