Marvin W. Jacob, known to most as Marv, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, just two months shy of his 95th birthday. Born in Norfolk, Nebraska, on May 13, 1930, Marv lived a life marked by hard work, unwavering faith, and deep devotion to his family and community.
From an early age, Marv exemplified a strong work ethic. Growing up in Nebraska, he worked various jobs, including at a dairy as a child, building bridges, transporting gas in freezing conditions, and operating cranes for Joslyn-an occupation that led to the loss of a finger but ultimately funded the lasting journey to Oregon where he worked for Fred Meyer and the Linn County Road Department, where he retired. He and his wife, Frances, would put down lasting roots in the home they bought, remodeled, added-on and lived in until their last days.
Marv's faith was the cornerstone of his life. A dedicated and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he served in multiple roles, always committed to the well-being of his church family. His last and most enduring position was being Pastor Oliver's unelected sermon time keeper. He enjoyed volunteering and serving on the Board at Camp Serene. His involvement reflected his deep belief in service, fellowship, and faith.
In addition to his work and faith, Marv had a passion for competition and connection. He was a bowling champion, collecting numerous trophies over the years, and in his younger days, he took part in stock car racing and mechanics, excelling in the sport. He was an avid pinochle player receiving multiple grand championships, spending Mondays at the Jefferson Community Center enjoying the game with friends. His love for Oregon State Beavers athletics was unmatched, as he and his best friend, Jim Bryant, faithfully attended football, basketball, and baseball games.
Summers meant camping trips with family and friends, where he packed up the motorhome and embraced the great outdoors. In retirement, he found joy at the Fountain of Youth in the South, where he relaxed with friends, played bocce ball, and even won championships.
Marv was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances L. Jacob, who passed in August 2024 and all his 16 siblings. His legacy lives on through his children, Dianna and Scott Elliott, Angela and Justin Adams, grandchildren, Jeremy and Christina Jacob, Kasandra Edwards, Kourtney Loe, Nathan and Macy Loe, Brooke and Blake Smith, Rylie Thompson and Tanner Garthwaite, Kyler Thompson and Avery Adams, great-grandchildren, Austyn Hicks, Madysen and Delayne Jacob, Ryder, Weston, Paislee and Lainie Smith, along with great-great grandchild Presley Hicks, as well as the countless lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.
Marv's life was a testament to faith, family, and perseverance. He will be remembered for his love of a good card game, his dedication to his church, his excitement for the Beavers, and the countless stories he shared with those lucky enough to know him.
As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life full of hard work, deep faith, and enduring love.
