Marvin Dean Rhoads, 88, husband of Kay McCracken Rhoads, died Monday, May 20, 2024, at his home.
Born in Grantville, PA, he was a son of the late Ralph Jacob Rhoads and Ruth Miller Rhoads. He graduated from Palmyra High School in Palmyra, PA. After graduation he entered the U. S. Air Force, with stations in Hawaii, Wyoming, the Panama Canal Zone, Montana, Korea, and South Carolina.
While on active duty, he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business Administration and was an adjunct instructor for the University of Maryland in Panama and Korea and for Great Falls College in Montana.
Mr. Rhoads was retired from the U. S. Air Force with 23 years of service and after his retirement worked for the U.S. Civil service in management engineering and contracting at Fort Jackson, SC.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 44 years of Sumter are two daughters, Barbara Jean Lyles (Dale) of Boiling Springs, SC and Sheila Rhoads Gaugh (John) of Lake Hartwell, SC; one son, Dean M. Rhoads (Elizabeth) of Raleigh, NC; one stepdaughter, Laura Dowds Louis (Chris) of Farmington Hills, MI; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Romaine Rhoads Bomgardner; and one brother, Robert Aaron Rhoads.
Memorial Services will be held in Indiantown Gap, PA, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Tuomey Foundation, 115 N. Sumter Street, Suite 420-A, Sumter, SC 29150, or to another charity of the donor's choice.
