Marvin Schoonover Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Healy Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services - Sugar Grove Facility on Mar. 17, 2026.
Marvin Schoonover, age 89, of Sugar Grove, Illinois, passed away on March 11, 2026.

Marvin was born on February 10, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Marvin and Doris Schoonover. He grew up in Omaha, where he distinguished himself as a talented athlete, becoming a two-time state wrestling champion.

Marvin went on to build a successful career in information technology, serving as an IT Manager at Nalco Chemical. During his time at Nalco, he received the President's Achievement Award in recognition for his dedication and contributions.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marvin was best known for his kind and generous spirit. A true gentleman, he was sweet, loving, caring, and endlessly friendly to everyone he met. He had a special love for his children and grandchildren and took great joy in spending time with family. Marvin enjoyed collecting coins, following sports, and brightening people's days in small but meaningful ways, often handing out mints, offering compliments, and making others feel welcome and valued.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, Gundy Schoonover; his children Jamie (Ed), Susie (Doug), Mike (Carly), Matt (Valerie), and Marc (Matt); and his cherished grandchildren Nile, Matt, Sarah, Jonathan, Ben, Aleena, Johann, and Valentina. He also had one great-granddaughter, Lily.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Doris, and his siblings, Bob and Pat.

A celebration of Marvin's life will be held at a future date.
