Marvin Leo Templeman, 91, of Casey, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at his home. Born on March 20, 1934, in rural Adair County to Glenn Templeman and Thelma (Templeman) Martin, Marvin grew up in Dexter, Iowa.

It was there that he met Cleo Del Rote, and their love story began at a young age. They married in April 1954 and welcomed their daughter, Catherine, in the summer of 1955. Marvin and Cleo later moved to California, where Marvin worked for his brother-in-law, Russ Wahlert. After five years, they returned to Iowa, where Marvin helped his father on the family farm.

In 1966, they settled in Winterset, Iowa, and welcomed their son, Michael. In 1979, the family moved to Casey, where Marvin purchased The Bombshelter in January 1980. For over 45 years, Marvin was the heart and soul of the bar, running it six days a week until just days before his passing. His ability to remember everyone's "usual" made the bar a second home to countless patrons, and he became a trusted confidant, a friendly face, and a source of joy to all who knew him.

Outside of work, Marvin enjoyed horseback riding, farming, hunting, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Cleo; father, Glenn Templeman; his mother, Thelma Martin; his son, Michael Templeman; his sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Russ Wahlert; and his nephew, Philip Wahlert.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Terry) Nelson; granddaughters Ashley (Blake Vorrath) Nelson and Whitney (Dustin Holtz) Nelson; as well as many friends who will miss his presence dearly.

Though his seat behind the bar may be empty, his presence will always remain.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the Casey Community Center.

Burial will be at a later date at the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designation and can be sent in care of Schmidt Family Funeral Home to P.O. Box 523 Atlantic, Iowa 50022.
