On June 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home, Marvin Thornton, Sr. peacefully passed away. He was born on July 27, 1946, in Lake City, FL to the late Les and Magdalene Finley Thornton.

Marvin worked 2 years with the state road department until dedicating 30 years of his life to service with Union County Road Department before his well-deserved retirement. His commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on those around him. Known for his personality, Marvin found joy in various hobbies such as fishing, gardening, mechanic work, carpentry, and had a knack for being a jack of all trades. He also had a special appreciation for bluegrass music that brought him moments of relaxation and happiness.

A visitation to honor Marvin's life will be held at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Monday, June 10, 2024, starting at 10:00 am. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location at 12:00pm. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Sapp Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Randall A. Griffis, Sr.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Francis McKinney Thornton; his children, Marvin (Sharon) Thornton Jr., Terry W. Thornton, Brian (Daisy) Thornton, and Mary Thornton (Matt Perez), along with 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, Marvin is also survived by his siblings Robert Thornton, Ruth (H.D.) Sapp, Virginia Manning, and Sammy (Donna) Thornton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
