Marvin Russell Tucker, 85, of Bedford passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in Madrid, KY, on September 7, 1939. A son of the late Raymond Clinton Tucker and Monie Rae Tucker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Tucker Tinsley, his brother Wallace Tucker, his sister Diane Davis. Also, his best friends ever Richard Covington and Zane Nance.
Marvin served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years. He retired from the National Park Service after 33 years of service. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, trips to Nelson County and Douthat State Park and making his famous venison smoked sausage and jerky which he loved sharing with everyone. Marvin was the sweetest and most kind person ever. He loved all his family and friends and spending time with each of them.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, JoAnn Painter Tucker, his daughter, Teresa Harris (Troy), his son Dwayne Tucker (Lisa), grandsons, Jared Tucker (Amanda), Zachary Harris (Vanity), granddaughters, Anna Tinsley (Collin), Emily Tinsley and Madison Tucker. Great-grandchildren, Raylan Tucker, Jack Tucker, Sutton Tinsley, Ari McLaughlin and Hattie Lynn Tucker. Special Sister-in-law, Leecy Painter, Special Brother-in-law, Roger Painter (Dora), Special grand-dog, Sage. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers and for those wishing to make memorial contributions in Marvin’s memory please consider St. Jude’s’s Children’s Research Hospital.

A celebration of Marvin’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, with Margaret Key officiating.
