Bette Sue Hinshaw Cline, 84, of Moneta, Virginia passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Hinshaw and Thema Macy Knshaw, and the wife of Nelson Cline for 60 years.
Bette was born on September 4, 1941, in Muncie, Indiana. She attended Muncie Central High School, then pursued her education in English and Library Science at Ball State University. She worked in libraries in Cincinnati, Morrow, and Mason Ohio, as well as Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In more recent years, she was a librarian in Rocky Mount and Westlake Virginia.
Bette was a member of Friends Meetings (Quaker) in Muncie, Cincinnati and Greensboro. She enjoyed reading, knitting and volunteer work in several organizations in the Smith Mountain Lake Virginia, including many years with Lake Chrisian Ministries.
Bette is survived by her husband, Nelson Cline of 60 years, her son, Matthew; daughter, Michelle Holmes; grandchildren, Madison Murphy Cline, Skye Holmes, and Greyson Holmes; niece, Sharon Schamberg, and nephew, Steven Sumner, as well as multiple great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bette was preceded in death by her sister, Julia Sumner.
A service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta with Rev. Spencer Broce officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem UMC or New Garden Friends Meeting of Greensboro.
