John Kimmel Potter of Sun City West, AZ, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 5, 2026, after a brief illness at the age of 91. He had a long and wonderful life, as he put it.

John was a graduate of Muncie Central High School in Muncie Indiana where he earned the nickname of "Boom-Boom" for his drumming skills. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force and was a proud veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Chinese linguist. On completion of his service, he went on to study at Indiana University graduating with a degree in Radio and Television. Once college was over, he began a long and illustrious career in the entertainment industry. John began at NBC (NY) as a page then moved on to KYW-TV3 in Cleveland Ohio where he became a producer and director. His next stop was Cincinnati Ohio where he began work at The Procter & Gamble Company as a Production Supervisor overseeing more than 5000 commercials in an eight-year period.

He quickly moved up to Program Supervisor overseeing most of the Daytime Serials (Soaps – "Guiding Light", "Search for Tomorrow" and others) for 10 years.

After another promotion now to Program Supervisor of Nighttime Programming which included over 17 "Made for TV" Movies, Award Shows such as: "The People's Choice Awards", Beauty Pageants including: "Miss USA", "Miss Universe" and others as well as Variety Programs and 11 sitcom pilots. He retired from Procter & Gamble in 1991 but kept on producing "The People's Choice Awards" until 2004 when he finally retired from the industry.

In 1999 he decided to pursue a lifetime passion and published his first Novel "The Warehouse" which began a publishing flurry for a total of 7 in his later years.

Civically he was active in many different organizations The Mason's, The Writer's Guild of America and the Corte Bella Vets to name a few. He had been an active member of his church community in many different parts of the country, finally making his home at the Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West.

John was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn (Lynn) in 2018. He is survived by his adult children John W. Potter and Meredith E. Potter as well as his grandson Logan W. Geary and his younger brother George R. Potter. He spent his final 7 years in the loving company of his wonderful and caring partner Linda Longley.
