John Hofsetz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center on Mar. 4, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, John Hofsetz, 82, of Sun City West, AZ, who passed away on March 1, 2026, peacefully in his sleep.

Born to John and Christina in Sterling Colorado, where he lived and grew up with his five sisters and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. After graduating from St. Anthony's High School, John served in the US Navy. Upon returning to Colorado, John married Chyrl Sullivan and had three children, he attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. His early career was spent in education as a teacher, coach, and providing schools with educational materials and fundraising. The later part of his career, his favorite and most fulfilling, was as the owner of Five Star Car Company, where he spent the rest of his working years. Known as "Honest John" to colleagues, coworkers, and vendors, he was loved and well respected within the industry.

John moved to Sun City West in 2010, where he spent many happy years enjoying the sunshine, golfing with friends, and his annual grandkids camping trip through the mountains of Colorado. He was lovingly known as "Grumpy" by his grandkids and he loved teaching them to fish and camp, two of his favorite pastimes. He spent most summers in Montana's Bitterroot Valley, fly fishing with his family and friends.

He is survived by his three children, Therron, Kendra, and Brendon, his six grandchildren, Ximenna, Zach, Aidan, Ryley, Kasen, and Ainsley. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, his second wife, Sharee, and longtime companion, Marilyn.

A local celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 6th, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at The Crooked Putter Restaurant and Pizzeria at the Grandview golf course in Sun City West. A small family celebration of life will be held in Montana during the summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Bitteroot Trout Unlimited (www.bitterroottu.org) or Helping Hands Sun City West (www.scwfoundation.org).
