Mary Elayne Angerer

Mary Elayne Wicklund Angerer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025.

Born on May 29, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Wayne and Elna Wicklund. Mary was a passionate and lifelong learner. She graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1959 and went on to earn a degree in mathematics with a minor in chemistry from Ohio State University in 1962. She was also a member of Alpha Kia Omega Sorority. Her love for education continued throughout her life, and in 1995, she earned a second bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Delaware.

For many years, she shared her passion for knowledge as a dedicated high school math and science teacher, where she inspired countless students with her commitment to education and her belief in their potential.

Mary had a deep love for music and performance. She sang with the New Ark Chorale, the Oratorio Society of Delaware, and several church choirs. Her sense of adventure took her to all seven continents, where she explored the world and embraced diverse cultures with curiosity and joy. In her quieter moments, she loved playing bridge, working on Sudoku puzzles, and solving crossword puzzles, all of which kept her sharp mind active and engaged.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. David Angerer, and is survived by her three children: Mary Ellen Arthurs (Patrick), Kathryn May Barton (Sean), and Rev. John David "Jay" Angerer Jr. (Lisa); her five grandchildren, Pat "PJ", Shannon (Wesley), Jacob, Renee, and Cole; and her two great-grandchildren, Noah and Avary. Mary is also survived by her twin sisters, Dr. Judith Mays and Joyce Kissel (Ronald), and her brother, David Wicklund (Susan).

A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on May 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
