Mary Coray Obituary

Mary Ann Coray

July 21, 1936 - August 8, 2025

State College, Pennsylvania - Mary Ann Coray, a devoted mother, cherished friend, and lifelong caregiver, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, in Hartford, CT. She was born in Scranton, PA, on July 21, 1936, the firstborn of Joseph and Clara DeAntona.

Mary Ann graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1954 and became a Registered Nurse after graduating from the Scranton State Hospital, School of Nursing in 1957. She married the love of her life, Tony Coray, in 1960, and together they built their life in State College, PA, where they raised their family and became deeply rooted in the community.

A dedicated healthcare professional, Mary Ann worked for many years in local nursing homes, including Park West Manor (now Hearthside) and The Fairways at Brookline. Her tender, compassionate presence touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues.

Beyond her professional work, Mary Ann was a woman of service and deep faith. She was a proud member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Blessed Madonna, and an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Drives and, after her retirement at age 75, found great joy in helping with the Pre-K class at Our Lady of Victory School, and with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, OLV Conference.

Mary Ann loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially celebrating holidays together. She enjoyed going to Penn State football games, taking peaceful walks, tending to her home, and caring for others in both big and small ways. She was known by all for her kindness, warmth, gentle nature, sense of joy, and her abundant smiles.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony J (Tony) Coray; her sister, Marguerite DelPrete; and her brother-in-law, Louis DelPrete.

Her loving children survive her: John Coray (Shannon), Joseph Coray, Anthony (Tony) Coray, and Peter Coray; her grandsons Jack and Nate Coray; her brothers Joseph DeAntona (Alyce) and Paul DeAntona (Gayle); and many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whose lives have been touched by her generous spirit and grace.

Mary Ann's legacy of compassion, love, and service lives on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Family and friends can gather at Our Lady of Victory Church on Tuesday, August 26, for a visitation at 9:00 am and join in the Order of Christian Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow at the parish activity center. Burial will be at the convenience of the family, at Boalsburg Cemetery.

To honor Mary Ann's memory, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made by check to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, mailed to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA 16801, or to a charity of your choice in your local community.

Mary Ann's energy and compassion shines through the decades. In every activity she undertook in town she brought a kind vibe to the work she did. I worked with her a medical records clerk Parkwest Manor in the 1970s.

To the entire Coray family,
Maryann was definitely an angel God sent to Earth.
I met her many years ago when she was a friend of Valerie Hana. We both watched after her for many years. I knew then that she was an angel on earth. Her love, faith, nursing skills always were like shining stars in real life. I loved her so much. May she be rewarded in Heaven and send more angels just like her to continue all her attributes to others. May you rest in peace, Maryann.
Sending spiritual hugs to all
