Mary Ann Nowak, 76, of Hillsdale, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was born in Hudson, New York on January 24, 1949, the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Baretsky) Ptaszek. After graduating from Hudson High School she went to work for the Columbia County Treasurer's Office. She later would go on to be an executive secretary for the New York State Board of Law Examiners in Albany until her retirement.
On November 9, 1974, in Catskill she married Peter Nowak. The two of them settled in Hillsdale and together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
She enjoyed working in her over 12 different flower gardens around their property, each bringing beautiful blooms. She was also an avid and talented painter and a voracious reader. She also had a love for animals, especially her cats and she never let a stay get too far away. Mary Ann will be greatly missed by her loving husband Peter, her daughter, Amanda Nowak and her son, Peter Nowak Jr. She also leaves behind a grandson, Kaden Nowak.
Services were held privately for the family in keeping with Mary Ann's wishes.
