I visited in May of 2017. I hadn't been back to Massachusetts since 1979. It was way too long. Aunt Mary Ann was her kind, gracious, loving and beautiful self. Just as I remembered her when I was a child. Before the trip in 2017 my family and I last visited in December 1979.
In the 1960s and 1970s we would fly out from California almost every other summer for our "Family Reunion". I would stay with Aunt Mary Ann, Uncle Bernie, Jill, Kim and Dianne for a few days each visit. They all made me feel right at home.
My back east family talked a little "funny" and I sometimes wouldn't quite get what they were saying. Aunt Mary Ann always stopped and spoke slowly and clearly so I could be part of the conversation. She would translate Massachusetts lingo to California lingo for me.
My mother had left Mass for CA in 1948 so her accent was barely noticable, that is, until we would land at Logan airport. I wouldn't understand her either... Or so I would allude. Aunt Mary Ann would give me a little smile and that "look" but she never let on to my mom.
Losing a parent is heartbreaking. My love, thoughts and prayers from the bottom of my heart go out to her family and especially to my cousins, Jill, Kim and Dianne and their families.
She is in heaven with your dad (Uncle Bernie), Gram, Aunt Erma, Aunt Helen, Aunt Ronnie, both Uncle Dave's, Uncle Henry, Terri and my mom and dad.
I can picture them at a reunion like no other sitting in a circle, sipping on a drink and enjoying peace forever. Possibly planning to "toilet paper" Aunt Ronnie or Aunt Helen just for fun when they aren't looking.
My husband, Leland, never got the chance to meet her nor Uncle Bernie. He said to me "I will meet her, and the others one day and it will be wonderful".
You will be missed Aunt Mary Ann. Until we meet again.

My dearest friend Mary Ann, You left us all too quickly and I am greatly saddened. It is selfish of me to want you to stay with us when I know you are in a much better place. I will fondly remember you and our great times together: days sitting on the patio chatting with our neighbors and friends, going out to lunch and on Saturdays heading out for Mass together each week. Thank you dear friend for these wonderful memories. My love is with you until we meet again in God's time. Love, Martha

I met Mary Ann 10 years ago when I moved into Merriam Village. We worked on many projects together at MV especially when we renovated the Harnish House from the cement floors up.
Mary Ann was always the first to volunteer to help with the many social events we held at the HH. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.
She was there for me when I needed a helping hand. I am sad she won't be at MV to shine her light on the village. I will miss her.
Your neighbor and friend,
Lynne Lazaro

We met just a few times, both of us walking somewhere in Merriam Village, where she and I lived. Yet Mary Ann always greeted me like a friend and had a supportive word to offer. It always brightened my day. My condolences to the family for the loss of such a nice person.

Our hearts are broken without you, Aunt Mary Ann, and yet you will always be cherished and will live on in all of us who knew you. You took care of me for the first week of my life, and I will be thankful to you for the rest of my days. I have never known life without you, my dear Godmother. I love you with all my heart and will forever miss being able to hug you.
