Mary Evelyn Rorex Atkinson was born on December 29, 1931, in Panhandle, Texas to Joe and Lydia Lill Rorex, the last of eight children.
She graduated from Panhandle High School, and from Texas Technological College with a degree in architecture. She had a career in Lubbock as a partner of the firm Atkinson and Atkinson Architects.
She served on the board of the Lubbock Cultural Affairs Council and was active in the Lubbock Art Association.
She and her husband, Atmar Atkinson, retired to Rockport, Texas in 1983 where they became active in the Rockport Art Center. Evelyn served two terms on the board of Directors.
She was preceded in her death by her husband, Atmar, and by her stepdaughter, Linda Carol (Penny) Redmon, and by all of her siblings.
She is survived by a stepson, Charles Michael Atkinson (Jason) in Denver, CO; a niece, Diane Rorex Spradlin in Dallas; a niece, Jeanna Rorex Scarozza in Buffalo, NY; and by nephews, Doug and Karl Waidhofer; and by three step granddaughters; Shelley Nicholson, Dena Monroe (Scott) and Christy Soares (Jesse), numerous step great grandchildren, and step great great grandchildren and her very special friends, Fern Olson and Michael.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Silvira (Friend), Michale Marty (Friend), Allen Nicholson (step great grandson), Todd Havers (Husband of Brandi Havers, step great grandchildren), Jess Soares (Husband of Christy Soares, step granddaughter), Scott Monroe, (Husband of Dena Monroe, step granddaughter).
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 10:00 am until service time of 2:00 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes in Rockport, Texas.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport/Fulton, 1308 Myrtle St. Fulton, TX 78358.
Or to the Rockport Art Center.
