Mary Louise Blake, of Steelville, MO, was born on Monday, December 21, 1953, in Steelville, MO to Matthew Cecil Blake and Joy Lee Blake, nee Cummings. She passed away in Steelville, MO on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 24 days.
Mary attended Steelville High School and later East Central College. Mary loved to travel and had taught English in Venezuela for 2 years. When she returned in 1990, she started Ace Case, a commercial sewing company, in Steelville, MO and later retired in 2016 after 26 years. She had married Winford "Wimpy" Sellers in Mt. Vernon, IL and raised their children together and loved each other's as their own. Mary enjoyed time spent on Courtois Creek, golfing, and especially enjoyed playing the games Scrabble and Canasta. She babysat her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved any time spent with family. She was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and was swept away like a leaf in an autumn breeze.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cecil & Celeste Blake and Otto & Lena Cummings; step-father, Ron Crocker; ex-husband, Winford "Wimpy" Sellers; nephew Jimmy Alumbaugh and niece Malissa Blake.
Mary is survived by her father and step-mother, Matthew and Bonnie Blake of Steelville, MO; mother, Joy Crocker of Oates, MO; 2 sons, Harold Dean Roper, wife Jane of O'Fallon, MO and Dennis James "Jimmy" Roper, wife Sherri of Steelville, MO; grandchildren, Mason Roper, wife Ashlee of Salem, MO, Madyson Roper, fiance William Pohlmann of Steelville, MO, Hannah O'Banner, husband Calvin of San Antonio, TX, Ryan Roper of O'Fallon, MO, Ally Dollar, husband Justin, Brayden Spurgeon, Michael Bulhoes and Abby Sellers; 7 great grandchildren: Bryar and Booker Roper, Eli and Emree Ruch, Rowen Pohlmann, Ezren O'Banner and Beau Dollar; step-children, Gina Spurgeon, husband Ricky, Jody Sellers, wife Amber and Laurie Finch, husband Steve; siblings, Liz Bruner, Richard Blake and James Graham all of Viburnum, MO, Linda Alumbaugh, husband Jim of Brinktown, MO, Keith Blake of Oates, MO, Melody Bailey, husband Jeff of Bourbon, MO and Ronald Cummings, wife Brandy of Crystal River, FL; former daughter-in-law, Tara Hamilton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 7:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating and was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO's Facebook Page. The family chose cremation as Mary's disposition and will have an inurnment at Hawk Point Cemetery in Hawk Point, MO at a later date. Memorials were suggested to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
