Mary Ann Brown, 89, of
Fredericksburg, Virginia, was born on February 4, 1937, in
Victoria, Virginia, and transitioned peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved daughter of the late Allie and Ellen Biggers.
Mary was baptized when she was young and became a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in
Victoria, Virginia. She received her education and graduated through the Lunenburg County School System.
Mary was employed at Southland Distribution Center, now known as McLane, and later dedicated many years to nurturing and caring for children as a Daycare teacher at Fredericksburg Montessori School (Children's House). Mary volunteered and worked as a teacher's aide when her children were in elementary school. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and was known for her warm spirit and vibrant personality. Mary enjoyed thrift-store shopping and had a remarkable ability to find the best bargains. She also loved spending time completing word-search puzzles and watching her favorite television programs, including soap operas, thriller movies, and home shopping networks. During baseball season, she proudly cheered for the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals.
A true competitor at heart, Mary loved playing cards and board games. She was also known for her cooking and baking, especially her delicious corn pudding, which became a beloved tradition at the annual family reunion.
Mary leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love through her devoted children, Antoinette Brown, Renee Greenhow (Mitchell), Felicia Purifoy of
Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Dean Brown (Kathleen) of Orlando, Florida. Her cherished legacy also lives on through her six grandchildren, Jeremy, Brandon, Alyssa, Jordan, Malik, and Makala; her siblings, Samuel Biggers (Darlena) and Annie Oliver; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, all of whom will always treasure her memory.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wise Brown; her sisters, Frances Williams, Pattie Boise, Beatrice Jackson, Helen McLeod, Joyce Smithson, and Callie Biggers; and her brothers, Allie Biggers Jr. and Louis Biggers.
Mary's warmth, strength, and loving spirit touched the lives of many, and her memory will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
