Mary Emma Brucato, 23, of Ladson, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Born on June 10, 2002 in Prince William County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Robyn Brucato.
Mary was a radiant light from the moment she entered this world. As a child, she amazed everyone around her. Not only with her exceptional intellect, which far exceeded her years, but with her sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. By the time she reached high school, she was already reading at a college level, and she brought joy, laughter, and a sense of wonder to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mary had a spirit that was as fun-loving, happy-go-lucky and carefree. She was often the brightest presence in any room she entered, her energy lifting those around her. Her sharp mind and playful heart made her unforgettable.
Like so many, Mary faced challenges that were difficult and unfair, yet throughout her struggles, she was surrounded by the unwavering love of her family and friends. At just 23 years old, her time with us was far too short.
What we hold closest now are the memories of her light, the brilliance of her mind, the joy of her laughter, and the warmth of her spirit. Though her story was far too brief, her impact on the hearts of those who knew her will endure forever.
Mary is survived by her brothers: David Bobbitt, Justin, and Brandon Sturgill; her sisters: Sarah and Noelle Sturgill; her sisters-in-law: Heidy Melendez and Callie Wood; her stepmother, Barbara Chandler; and her grandparents: Audrey Maddox, Carol Brucato, and Phil Brucato.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation in Goose Creek.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Formation Project or South Carolina 4 Criminal Justice Reform.
