Mary Laverne Canary 93, returned to her Lord on April 8, 2025, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
LaVerne was an avid Catholic an a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church. Her love for her family was deep and showed in her passion for cooking and baking. She made countless cakes, including breathtaking wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and her amazing Easter bunny cake. She catered many events and was a gifted seamstress. Her most cherished roles were daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. She blessed everyone with her beautiful smile and warm laugh. Her loss will be felt among many dear family members and friends she made during her lifetime.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eugene Canary, parents, William Charles and Edith White Russell, stepmother, Marguerite Cambron Russell; sisters Dorothy Graves, Shirley Walston, Jean Cambron, and Beverly Wiggs. Also, brothers-in-law Ed Graves, Jimmy Walston, Garner Wiggs and Jim Buckman.
She is survived by her children, Ronnie Canary (Debby), Steve Canary (Wanda), Bobby Canary and Marsha Welsh; grandchildren, Rhonda Oechsli (Ed), Angela Canary (Justin), Michael Welsh (Sara), Gregory Welsh (Brittany), great grandchildren, Jakob Oechsli, Aiven Welsh, Kace Welsh, Vaida Welsh and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers, Dan Cambron (Sue) and Rick Russell (Donna); sisters, Gloria O'Bryan (Ernie) Judith Hannigan (Joe), Marilyn Buckman, and sister-in-law Marty Howe.
Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Monday, April 21 at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison at Barret Avenues. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 22, at St. Brigid's Church, 1520 Hepburn at Baxter Avenues immediately followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road.
