Mary Casso Obituary

Mary Lou died suddenly after a short illness on October 7, at Ellis hospital. She worked a long career in the food service industry well into her late 70's at many restaurants. The last 20 years of her career she worked as the cook at Theta-Delta Chi Fraternity at Union College. "Mrs. C," as she was referred to there, was revered by many, and especially several who kept in contact with her and visited her over the years into her retirement. Mary Lou loved to travel and took many fun trips with her friends and her daughter Stacey and grandchildren Dan and Berta. Her most memorable trips were to Hawaii and Walt Disney World with them. The yellow Mickey Mouse ponchos in the rainstorm we wore at WDW kept us laughing throughout the years! She was predeceased by her husband Anthony J. Casso Sr., parents Alexander Elizabeth & Grasso, brothers Frank N. Grasso, and Alexander Grasso Jr. She is survived by her beloved "Sissie" Barbara Jean Grasso; daughters Dr. Stacey A. DeLaney (Dave), Jeanette White (Kevin), Joyce Amorosi. step son, John Casso (Mark); sons, Anthony Casso Jr. (Gerri), and Michael Casso (Roxanne). Mary Lou is also survived by eight grandchildren (and step grandchildren) and eight great grandchildren (and step grandchildren), as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. While she did not hold her youngest two great grandsons in her arms (Anderson & Brendan), thanks to the modern marvels of technology, she held them in her heart and spirit through video chats and photos- the smiles these boys brought to her face, extremely endearing! We would like to thank her Landmark Health Nurse Amy, Social Worker Simone, Ellis Hospital Nurse Ben, Father Anthony Green at Ellis. Also, her aid Pat and Danette for their support during the difficult passage to eternity. A special thanks to her friend Glenn and most especially to her friend and beloved neighbor Jackie, who was a guardian angel and blessing to mom. Mom, (grandma, auntie, Sissie,) will be sorely missed by all the lives she touched over the years, but knowing she will be reunited with her one true love, Dad, brings great joy to our hearts. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday October 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a service to follow at 1pm, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie NY 12205.
