Mary Castrejon, 64, of Lubbock, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on January 28, 1959, in Crystal City, Zavala County, Texas, to the late Jose and Gloria Torres.
Mary loved to gamble, especially playing the one-armed bandits…the slot machines. She also loved to be outdoors and working in her garden. Cooking Mexican food was a favorite of Mary’s, as she made the perfect tortillas and tamales, according to her family. Also, she was a loving mother and grandmother to her seven adored grandchildren. She was brought up in the Catholic faith.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include one son, Fidel Castrejon and his wife Elizabeth of Lubbock; three daughters: Cynthia Rodriguez and her fiancé Fred Quintero of Lucas, Texas, Bonnie Ornelas and her husband Armando of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Leobertha Reyna and her boyfriend Xiao Cheng of Lubbock; one brother, David Torres and his wife Misti of Dothan, Alabama; one sister, Sandra Reyes and her husband Junior of Hobbs, New Mexico; and seven grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Alex, Rudy, Martin and Joe; one sister, Gracie.
A time of reflection and visitation for Mary will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Mr. Jerry Plank, one of the pallbearers, will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
The pallbearers will be Fidel Castrejon, Junior Reyes, Fred Quintero, Hector Dominguez, Xiao Cheng and Jerry Plank.
