Mary Worlene Gaskins Chesser, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, was born on June 7, 1940, in Gainesville, Florida, to the late Samuel Benton and Nell Smith Gaskins. She peacefully departed from this world on November 1, 2025, in Skyland Valley, Sylva, North Carolina, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Stevens Chesser, whose absence is felt deeply by all. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories and a bond that transcended time, holding a special place in the hearts of their family.

As a dedicated homemaker, Mary poured her heart and soul into nurturing her family. Her loving and caring spirit created a warm haven for those she held dear. Known for her great sense of humor, Mary could bring a smile to anyone's face, turning even the most mundane moments into cherished memories. Her classic lady demeanor and genuine kindness endeared her to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family meant the world to Mary, and she devoted her life to creating lasting bonds with her loved ones. She is survived by her son, Walter Chesser Jr., and her daughter, Rebeca Gomme, who carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. The laughter and warmth of her spirit continue to thrive in her grandchildren: Matthew Branson, Kayla Avitable, Walter Chesser III, and Patrick Chesser, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Mary's passions were reflected in the time she spent surrounded by family and friends. Whether it was sharing stories, enjoying a meal, or simply being together, she treasured every moment, always reminding those around her of the importance of love and connection.

In celebrating Mary’s life, we honor her legacy of love, joy, and family values. Though she is no longer with us, her indomitable spirit will continue to guide her family, serving as a reminder of the beauty of life lived with purpose, kindness, and a great sense of humor. She will be profoundly missed but forever cherished. The care of Mary was entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
