A Glorious Homecoming
Mary Christine Childers passed away peacefully in her sleep December 17, 2025 and woke up in glory.
Christine was born December 8, 1940 in Jackson County, North Carolina to the late Manley and Lillie Coggins. She was one of three surviving children.
No words can describe the joy and love Mrs. Christine brought to her family, and friends. Christine was a true virtuous woman and a role model to those around her. Her life was a living testimony and an example for all. She wasn't just a Mama or a Nanny to her own family but to all she encountered.
Some of her joys in life include: attending Fall Cliff Baptist Church, singing, playing the piano with the Revaluation Quartet and countless other gospel groups. She also enjoyed planting a garden, digging ginseng in her earlier years, fishing, quilting, cooking, playing church league softball, watching Ron and Zeb play football, listening to football on the radio, and talking on the phone with her two best friends Joyce and Zetti. She also treasured her adventures with her niece Levita. Most of all she enjoyed loving all children, especially her grand babies and great-grand babies. She was especially fond of Ms. Saylor her youngest best friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Childers of 66 years, four sons, three grandsons, parents Manley and Lillie Coggins, sister Rosella Coggins Chalios and brother Calvin Coggins.
Christine is survived by her son; Ron (Holly) Childers, special son Derrick (Carolyn) Coggins. Grandchildren; Lori Childers, Crissi (Taylor)Harrison, Zeb Childers. Special grandchildren; Laci Coggins Myers (Ayla and Taylor Jamison) and Travis Coggins. Great Grandchildren; Waylon Bennett, Conlee Harrison, and Ronnie Harrison. Sister-in-law Johnnie Coggins. Many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Fall Cliff Baptist Church in Cullowhee on December 30, 2025 at 1pm with the Reverend Tommy Holden and Reverend Johnny Rae Davis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Fall Cliff Cemetery Fund in care of Larry McFalls at 87 Rock Quarry Road, Sylva NC 28779 or Pine Creek Cemetery Fund in care of Joyce Tucker 4338 Pine Creek Road, Cullowhee NC, 28723.
