Mary Cook

Mary Ledford Cook, 83, of Hayesville, was called home to her Lord and Savior Monday, Aug. 11, 2025. She was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. Mary worked at both Clay County Care Center and Brasstown Manor as a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed growing and canning vegetables and sharing them with friends and family. She was known for her delicious southern home cooking. Mary enjoyed traveling in her later years. She was a member of Hayesville Church of God where she taught Sunday School. She was a faithful servant of God throughout life. Her greatest joy came from the time spent with her kids and grandkids.
She was the daughter of the late Adam William and Ethel Coker Ledford. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Loyd Barnes and Louis Cook; a son, Michael Barnes; a sister Martha Berrong; and two brothers, Bill Ledford and Carroll Ledford.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Clouchete and husband, Russ, and Amanda Johns and husband, Steve, all of Hayesville; three sisters, Margaret Ledford, of Hayesville, Ginger Henderson, of Blairsville, Ga. and Patricia Noland and husband, Steve, of Hiawassee, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville with the Rev. Mitchell Totherow officiating. Interment will be in the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Johns, Russ Clouchete, Steve Clouchete, Tyler Newman and Chad and Jason Hunt.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 p.m. at the Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville prior to the service.
