Mary Ledford Cook 83, of Hayesville, was called home to her Lord and Savior Monday, August 11, 2025. She was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. Mary worked at both Clay County Care Center and Brasstown Manor as a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed growing and canning vegetables and sharing them with friends and family. She was known for her delicious southern home cooking. Mary enjoyed traveling in her later years. She was a member of Hayesville Church of God where she taught Sunday School. She was a faithful servant of God throughout life. Her greatest joy came from the time spent with her kids and grandkids.
She was the daughter of the late Adam William and Ethel Coker Ledford. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Loyd Barnes and Louis Cook; a son, Michael Barnes; a sister Martha Berrong; and two brothers, Bill Ledford and Carroll Ledford.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Clouchete and husband, Russ, and Amanda Johns and Husband, Steve all of Hayesville, North Carolina; three sisters, Margaret Ledford of Hayesville, North Carolina, Ginger Henderson of Blairsville, Georgia and Patricia Noland and husband, Steve of Hiawassee, Georgia; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thursday, August 14, 2025 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville with the Reverend Mitchell Totherow officiating. Interment was in the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Johns, Russ Clouchete, Adam Brown, Tyler Newman, Chad Hunt and Jason Hunt.
The family received friends from 12-1:45 pm Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville prior to the service.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Mary Ledford Cook to Hospice of North Carolina, 75 Medical Park Lane, Suite C, Murphy, North Carolina 28906.
