North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Mrs. Mary Lou Wright, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Stafford, Virginia. Born on February 22, 1944, in South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Jasper Cox and the late Dessie Jane Cox.
Mary Lou was the bright, beating heart of her family. She lived her life with an unshakable optimism, always ready with an encouraging word and an endlessly supportive spirit that lifted everyone around her. She was a natural leader in all things family-the quiet, resourceful presence that ensured everything was taken care of-but she was never one to seek the spotlight. She dedicated her life to creating a loving and welcoming home for all, possessing a true gift for entertaining. Her greatest joy was being with her family and close friends, always ensuring there was an abundance of food, laughter, and warmth. She enjoyed reading and visiting the beach, her favorite place to rest and recharge. Her legacy is one of selfless devotion and boundless love.
She is survived by her three sons, Edward K. Wright Jr., David A. Wright (Gina), and William Joseph Wright (Ana); grandchildren, Edward, Hayden, Isabella, and Ricky; sisters, Bonnie Rabon and Janice Rodeffer (Larry); and brothers, Jerry Cox (Ann), Jimmy Cox, and Charlie Cox (Barbara).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Kent Wright; sister, Joanne Cox Brooks; and brothers, Robert F. Cox, Joyce E. Cox, Daniel Eugene Cox, and William Clay Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Hardwick Funeral Home with Phyllis Elvington officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service on Friday at Hardwick Funeral Home. Committal services will be private. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 230, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
