Mary Crow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ballard Funeral Home on Dec. 2, 2025.
Mary Howe Crow of Cody, Wyoming

Born June 12, 1952 to Robert E. (Gene) and Claire Howe in Norton, Kansas. The Howe's moved to Texas in 1957 and then to Cody, Wyoming in 1958.

Mary was a straight A student at Cody High and a member of the cheerleading squad. In 1969 she married Ken Morris and they had 3 children, Michael Bret Morris, Aaron Joseph Morris, and Jennifer Ruth Morris. Ken and Mary were divorced in 1982.

As a single mom with 3 children, Mary moved to Lenore, California in 1985 to be near her sister, Susan and brother-in-law Lyman. Susan and Lyman were a tremendous help to Mary as she worked 40 hours a week while raising her 3 children. When her boss strongly encouraged her to get a college degree, she took on 2 classes a semester and finally graduated from college in 1993. That same year, Mary took a job with the City of Folsom, California. Jennifer, being the only child left at home, moved with her. Eventually Mary became the loan officer in charge of low-income loans for seniors there in Folsom. She was remembered fondly by all of the elderly who came to her for help in fixing something in their home or some other emergency.

Mary met James Crow in 1995 in Folsom and the two of them began an on-again off-again relationship. Ten years later on July 26, 2005, the two were married. Having just retired from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department, Jim convinced Mary to migrate back to her home town of Cody and operate a Bed and Breakfast Inn. They bought the Lambright Place B & B on Beck Avenue in the spring of 2006 and were in business for 7 years. Mary's somewhat supernatural abilities in the kitchen and the couple's wish that all of their guests would enjoy their stay, made it a successful venture.

In 2013, after selling the B & B, Jim and Mary bought a smaller house and became full time grandparents. The couple also became more active in the Cody Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Mary played a large role in the children's Sunday school program and also worked with Brian Andrews' Jubilee Inner-Town Ministries; where she taught cooking on Monday nights and helped with crafts and Bible study on Tuesday nights. The girls who were in the CMA Wednesday night 3rd - 5th grade youth group will never forget Mary.

Mary was diagnosed with gastric cancer in November of 2024. She passed away about noon on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Spirit Mountain Hospice House in Cody.

Mary is survived by her husband Jim; children Bret, Aaron, and Jennifer; step-son Matt and his wife Stacie; grandchildren Jake, Audrey, Jackson, Bradyn, Emily, Tayler, Elliot, and Kendal; her sisters Susan and husband Lyman Spaulding, and Elizabeth and husband Russ Wenke.

"Mary and I walked through 30 years of life together. It was wonderful; we held hands all the way."

Jim
