MARY LOU DANLY Mechanicsville Mary Lou Danly, 95, of Mechanicsville, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Survivors include her children, Steve (Becky) Danly and Julie (Steve) Akers; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Read and Brian (Penny) Danly; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Kaiden, Alex and Pyper; sisters, Jeanette Coder and Jean (Luke) Allsup; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Mary Lou Sproston was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Anamosa, to Harry and Hazel (Snyder) Sproston. She graduated Lisbon High School in 1945. Mary Lou married James Howard Danly on Aug. 14, 1949, in Mechanicsville. Mary Lou was a lifetime resident of Mechanicsville. Mary Lou worked in customer service at US Nameplate for over 23 years until her retirement in 1985. She participated in many community activities over the years including the Red Hat Society and bowling league at Mount Vernon. Mary Lou enjoyed camping, boating, fishin, and water skiing with her family, traveling with her husband, especially to Texas for the winter. She was artistic in her painting skills and a talented quilter, many members of the family received a quilt from her, as well as families in need. Mary Lou's cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind and caring woman who never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; brothers, Robert, Kenneth and James Sproston; and sister, Helen Schneider.
