Mary Dayback Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Day Funeral Home - Keyport on Feb. 5, 2026.
On February 4th our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at her home in Hazlet with her family by her side. Mom just wanted to spend her later years in her home with loved ones around and she did just that. Many a day you never knew who was going to come in the front door. She was always particular about what she had on and how her hair looked so she would be ready for all her family to stop by, and they did all the time. When she had a hard time getting around her grandchildren would carry her physically in her transport chair into the backyard of many parties just to see the kids swim in the pool or sing Happy Birthday. Having lost our father at early an age our mother became the "Matriarch" of the family. Nothing made her smile more than all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren running into the house and giving her a big hug. Then they ran down the hall to her large closet where she kept all the toys. They all knew exactly where to go and just how much they could get away with dragging into the living room where she waited with a smile. We all thought when they were around her children took a back seat. Which we were all fine with! As much as we have a gigantic hole in our heart and soul we know our Lord was welcoming her with open arms. We are sure she met our dad and will show them all how good they were at dancing the "Jitterbug". They could clear a room and they did just that. In her younger years, Mom worked as a teacher's aide at Memorial School and also taught CCD at Holy Family Church. She was very active, joining the Hazlet's Senior Group and the Altar and Rosary Society where she met many new friends and enjoyed dances, trips and socializing. She taught her children to be respectful, kind and hardworking people. Well, thank you mom because you did just that and we taught that to our children and they are teaching that to their children. Many would call this the "Circle of Life" We would like to call that a well-rounded faithful family. Mom is pre-deceased by her parents Jean Hobbs, Mack Hobbs and two of her brothers Walter J Hobbs and Mack (Butch) Hobbs. Also pre-deceased by her granddaughter Courtney Lynn Dayback and grandson Sean Joseph Doerr whom she adored. Pre-deceased are her two son-in-laws John Doerr and Mario LoSapio who loved and cared for her like their own. She is survived by her other 3 siblings Christine Fitzgerald, Joseph Hobbs, and Virginia (Ginny) Sisko. She is survived by six children and in-law children: John Dayback, Dennis and Linda Dayback, Susan LoSapio, Tom and Kathy Dayback, MaryJean Riccardi, Kathleen Doerr. She is also survived by and loved so much by her 15 grandchildren,24 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
