Mary Detweiler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Dec. 22, 2025.
Mary Emma (Gahman) Detweiler, age 96, of Souderton, Pennsylvania, formerly of Perkasie, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was the beloved wife of the late Warren W. Detweiler, with whom she shared seven years of marriage. Mary was born in Bedminster Township, Pennsylvania, to the late Abram S. Gahman and the late Hannah (Trauger) Gahman.

Mary was employed as a packager for the former Myers Foods (later known as Hanover Foods Corp) in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania, for many years.

She was a lifelong member of Deep Run Mennonite Church East. Mary was baptized on February 13, 1944, and faithfully served the church in many ways, including singing in the choir, performing with a women's octet, teaching children's Sunday school, and assisting with the Ten Thousand Villages sale. She also sang with the Life With God radio broadcast choir. In addition, Mary volunteered with the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes and the MCC Material Resource Center, both in Souderton.

Mary greatly enjoyed extensive national and international travel, needlework, sewing, crocheting, and recording films of her trips. She loved visiting friends, singing, and spending time with her family. She was a caring, kind-hearted, and gentle woman, always well-dressed and never known to speak a harsh word.

She is survived by her three stepdaughters: Betty Bergey & husband, Kenneth of Telford, PA; Mary Navarre & husband, Edward of Blooming Glen, PA; and Darlene Heacock & husband, Jeff of Perkasie, PA; her two stepsons: Garry Detweiler & wife, Rhoda and Ray Detweiler & wife, Debra, both of Perkasie, PA; her six step-grandchildren; her three step-great-grandchildren; her two step-great-great-grandchildren; her two sisters: Elsie Godshall of Souderton, PA, and Ruth Gahman of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Monroe Gahman; and her sisters, Florence Histand and Mamie Burgess.

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Deep Run Mennonite Church East, 350 Kellers Church Road, Perkasie, PA 18944, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m.

Service will be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/live/A_v5p2-hBHM?feature=share

Burial will take place at Deep Run Mennonite Cemetery East.
