Mary Esther Downing

Mary Esther (Banter) Downing, 81, of Shipshewana, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Mary was born to the late Von and Viola (Webb) Banter on August 27, 1942 in Kokomo, Indiana. On May 13, 1983, Mary married the love of her life Clarence Downing in Yeoman, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2001.
Mary graduated from Royal Center High School in 1960. Mary helped raise and care for her family throughout her life. In her free time, she had enjoyed singing karaoke, watching the news, baking, and spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren. Mary was known for her sense of humor, and the love she had for her family.
Survivors include her sons; Gregory (Tammy) McAninch, Chris (Veronica) McAninch, Marvin (Regina) McAninch, sisters; Nina Ralston, Peggy Jager, brother, Jeff Banter, 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband; Clarence Downing, sisters; Juanita Reed, Glenda Banter, Phyllis Caughlin, Norma Coughlin, brothers; William Banter, Danny Joe Banter, and Ricky Banter.
A funeral service honoring the life of Mary will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 2 pm, with Pastor Kelly Spencer officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 12 pm until the time of the service, located at Davidson-Shirey Funeral Home, 121 North Union Street, Delphi. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery in Burnettsville.
