Mary Lou Dunlay

Mary Lou (Kernan) Dunlay, 91, of Oakmont, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was the beloved wife of 59 years of the late James F. Dunlay; loving mother of Jim (Cecilia) Dunlay, of Allegheny Township, Peg Dunlay Kendra, of Charleston, S.C., Pat Dunlay Lauff, of Oakmont, and Michael Dunlay, of Chicago; adored grandmother of Jennifer, Michael (Emily), Christopher (Kaitlin), Allison, Kelly, Carlye (Ben), Daniel, Hanna (Stephen), Erin (Micah) and Mackenzie; great-grandmother of Liam Dunlay; daughter of the late Gert and Frank Kernan; and sister of Butch (Mary) Kernan, Patricia (John) Blough and Kathleen (Terry) Anger. Mary Lou was a graduate of Carlow University, member of the choir at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, beloved preschool teacher at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, active member with the Oakmont Garden Club and enjoyed volunteering in her community. Mary Lou will be remembered for her kind and caring heart, being an angel to everyone she met, and the way she held your hand with genuine love. Her spirit and positivity were contagious, and she heightened every life she touched. Her love and care for her family, her many friends and her community will stay with us all. She was a woman of deep faith who was grateful to live a full and richly blessed life. Those who were loved by Mary Lou will be comforted by her eternal presence in their lives. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Holy Family Parish (St. Irenaeus Catholic Church). Family suggests memorials to Bridges Hospice and the Alzheimer's Association.
