Mary Bentley Dupre
Exeter, NH - Mary Dupré of Exeter, 96, died quietly in her sleep, after a long, full life, on October 27th, 2025
Born in Exeter, NH April 14, 1929, to John Wilburt Bentley and Signe Maria (Skogberg) Bentley she was a graduate of Newmarket High School and the University of NH. She earned a degree in anthropology with a minor in English.
Mary is survived by brother John Bentley of Newmarket, NH, and children: Paul W. Dupré of Newmarket, NH; Louise Dupré of Pembroke, NH; Karen Dupré and husband Frank Spiridigliozzi of Epping, NH; John Dupré and wife Donna of Hudson, MA; Arthur Dupré of Berlin, NH; Julie Gilman and husband Gregory of Exeter, NH; grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces, and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Dupré, son, David, daughters Mary and Madeleine, brothers, Joseph Bentley, James Bentley, David Bentley and sisters Evelyn Stephens and Signe Stevenson.
She worked in the NH State Conservation and Rescue Archeology Program, at Strawbery Banke and the Wentworth Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth. She was a long time 4-H leader and NH history enthusiast.
Mary had a deep knowledge of Exeter and NH history, pottery, archeology and natural habitats. In her retirement she enjoyed drawing, watercolor painting, reading and writing poetry. She volunteered on the Exeter Heritage Commission and was active at the Squamscott View apartment's gardening and newsletter.
A long-time parishioner of St. Michael church, she was active in many aspects of worship, creating the parish's library and work with the CCD and RCIA programs. With the church, Mary travelled to Jerusalem and the shrine of St. Theresa of Avilla. Always interested in travel, Mary joined family members visiting England, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark and Puerto Rico.
Calling hours will be November 3 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Brewitt Funeral home, 14 Pine Street, Exeter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held November 4 at 1:00 pm, at St. Michael Church, 9 Lincoln St., Exeter. A private burial will be held at Exeter Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Saint Vincent DePaul Society in Exeter or the Exeter Historical Society.
