On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, our beloved Mary Cliff Dyer peacefully entered into eternal rest at Piedmont Cartersville Hospital. On that sacred day, Heaven gained a radiant soul, and Earth bid farewell to a woman whose life was defined by strength, faith, and deep love. A guiding light in the lives of many, Mary now rests in the everlasting peace of the Lord-a peace promised to all who walk faithfully in His grace.
Born on May 17, 1934, in
Cartersville, Georgia, Mary was the treasured daughter of the late Robert and Rosa Richard. Deeply rooted in family values and spiritual conviction, she carried those foundations throughout her life. Her journey took her from Cartersville to Marietta, Georgia, where she spent her early and middle years, before returning home to Cartersville to spend her final days among familiar faces and loving memories.
Mary was a proud graduate of Summer Hill High School in Cartersville. A woman of grace, resilience, and quiet power, she built a respected career and later retired from both Lockheed Martin and the Georgia University System. She exemplified professionalism, perseverance, and a dignified strength that inspired all who knew her.
Beyond her professional life, Mary cherished the simple, profound joys of connection. She delighted in phone conversations that kept her close to family and friends, and her love for sports-at every level, from high school to the pros-was a constant passion. A loyal fan, she cheered loudly and proudly for her teams.
Mary's church family was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted and longtime member of Cole Street Baptist Church in Marietta, she continued her spiritual journey upon returning to Cartersville, worshipping faithfully at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Her presence in the pews-often adorned in one of her signature hats-was unforgettable. She was a vision of style, sass, and Sunday morning elegance.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin L. Dyer; her devoted parents, Robert and Rosa Richard; her sisters, Nida Bell Gainor and Jessie Lois Williams; and her brother, Robert E. Richard-whose passing, in a beautiful and mysterious symmetry, occurred on the same date, October 14th, thirty years earlier.
Mary's legacy continues through her loving son Eddie (Sandy) Dyer; her six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends. Each one holds dear the memory of her warmth, wisdom, laughter, and boundless love.
She will be remembered always for her generous spirit, her unwavering faith, her contagious sense of humor, and her deep devotion to family. Her presence was a gift; her absence, a profound loss.
A heartfelt and special thank you to Ms. Yvonne Martin, whose support and care during our family's time of need meant more than words can express. You stood with us in the storm, offering strength, grace, and unwavering love. We are forever grateful.
