Mary (Boyer) Eich, age 97, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, with her family around her.
Mary was born on February 13, 1928, in Galesburg, Ill. to Abel and Chloe (Cravens) Boyer. She graduated from Galesburg High School, and married Robert Bainter. They moved to Belleville, Wis. and had two children, James and Roberta (Robin), before Robert was tragically killed in a car accident, shortly before the birth of their daughter.
Mary scrambled to support the family as a widow, learning to drive, getting her license and a car, and a job at Badger Ordinance in Baraboo, Wis. Later, while visiting family in Galesburg, she met Leonard (Red) Eich at his friend's gas station. The young couple began dating and married on Nov 28, 1953. The newlyweds moved to Prairie du Sac, Wis. together, and welcomed three more children (David, Jennifer, and John), as the family moved to Cassville and Middleton, Wis. They later built their dream house in the country near Martinsville, Wis., which they adored and worked on for 41 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Chloe; her half siblings, Annette and Arvid; her husbands, Robert Bainter and Leonard Eich; her eldest children, James and Robin; and her granddaughter, Sarah. She is survived by her children, David (Sophie), Jennifer (Salvador Fernandez), and John (Kathy); nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Oakwood Village East chapel on October 11th, at 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, WI 53718. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m.

David, Jenny, and John, my sincere condolences on the loss of Aunt Mary, your Mom. I already miss talking to her on the phone. She was very wise and I could always depend on her to give me great guidance and a different perspective when we discussed things. I am confident Aunt Mary is enjoying her new home, planting a magnificent garden, perfect health and visiting with our other family members in heaven. RIP Aunt Mary!
