In Loving Memory of a Devoted Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and Friend
Mary Ellen Swift, age 67, of Providence, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2025. Mary Ellen was the beloved daughter of the late William I. Swift and the late Mary M. (Hayes) Swift, whose lives and legacies continue to inspire all who knew them.
She is survived by her siblings: William (Melinda) of Columbia, MO; Theresa (Kenneth Kristl) of Landenberg, PA; Stephen (Nicole) of Potomac, MD; Joseph (Jane) of Warwick, RI; John (Ronald Bowman) of Rehoboth, DE; and Kevin (Sharon) of North Providence, RI. Mary Ellen will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Ashley, Andrew, Nicholas, William, John, Joseph, Marcus, and Alyssa. She also leaves behind Andrew’s wife, Lauren, and their daughter, Lena, as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and kindness.
Mary Ellen was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, earned her Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Rhode Island, and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Bryant University. Her dedication to education and service was evident throughout her career, having worked faithfully for the Warwick Public School Department for 35 years. She also worked at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital on weekends for 30 years, demonstrating compassion and commitment to her community.
Known for her gentle spirit and unwavering support for family and friends, Mary Ellen embodied the values of kindness, generosity, and humility. Her life was a testament to service, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 239 Regent Ave, Providence, RI 02908. Burial will take place at St. Ann Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amos House (Soup Kitchen) 460 Pine Street, Providence, RI 02907, Blessed Sacrament Church in Providence, St. Pius Church in Providence, St. Mary’s Church in Pawtucket or to a charity of your choice in memory of Mary Ellen and her loving family.
