Mary Emma Jones Dixon Burke, 91, of Bonlee, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, at Chatham Hospital, surrounded by family.
Mary was born in Randolph County September 28th, 1933, to the late William Shelly and Nina Edna Cain Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph Clarence Dixon and her second husband, Calvin Burke; and her brother, Alex Clifton “Bo” Jones.
Mary had previously worked at Rose’s Department Store, then worked in the laundry department at Genesis Nursing Home, and as a cook at Hillforest Nursing Home. She was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church. She sang in the senior choir, was a member of the WMU and the Ladies Sunday School class. She loved cooking for her family and friends. Mary enjoyed a good word search puzzle and her tablet. She loved sitting on her porch enjoying the scenery. Her biggest love was taking care of her home and her family.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her sons, James Winford Dixon and his wife, Frances “Elaine” of Siler City, and William Joseph Dixon of the home; her daughter of the home, Edna Spivey; granddaughter, Lisa Thomas of the home; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and one on the way.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 9th, 2025, at 2 pm, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 8th, 2025, from 6-8 pm, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service Sunday in the Brush Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor John Hackney.
Memorials may be made to Cancer Research, Gideons, or Brush Creek Baptist Church cemetery fund.
Smith & Buckner Funeral Home will be assisting the Burke family.
