Cremation SourceMary (Gaston) Fox, age 80, stepped into glory on March 1, 2026. She was born on December 8, 1945 in Detroit, MI to the late Henry and Helen Gaston.
Mary raised four incredible children with faith, strength and compassion. Cindy Kanehl-Malaga (David), Kenneth Kanehl (2005), Heather Casper (Ken), and Heidi Illig (Paul). She also had the honor and privilege to assist in raising three bonus daughters. Lisa Fox (Dave), Carrie Reicher (Dale) and Marlyss Fox (1989).
Mary’s beautiful family included 15 grandchildren who have since added 14 great grandchildren to her life. Kendra (Ben), Ashley (Jake), Nikki (Allen), Kenny (2021), Chelsea, Kylie, Brandon, Emily, Marlyss (Dallas), Ethan, Joseph (Samantha), Victoria (Ken), Courtnie (Carter), Jared and Connor.
She will also be greatly missed by her sisters Ruth Winnicki (Barry), and Ann Grosso (John); as well as her nephews Hal (Allison) and Vincent and her long-time friend Terrie Smith.
Of her many gifts, one of her greatest was to love and care for children, special needs individuals, the elderly and all those in between. Mary also had a tremendous love for animals (dogs, cats and yes, her tarantula Spooky) as well as gardening.
Mary cherished her career of over 30 years as a para-professional for the Macomb Intermediate School District. It was through this connection that Mary decided to become a foster mother, first to Scotty, then Christopher and Matthew.
The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the staff and friends (who became family) at Bickford Assisted Living in Shelby Township.
At the end of life, we hope that our lives have mattered. Mary’s did and it showed through all the people she touched with her love.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 am at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, 38425 Garfield Rd, Clinton Twp, 48038. Luncheon to follow.
