Mary Gillis, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, in
Wichita, Kansas. Born on December 4, 1933, in
Bristow, Oklahoma, Mary lived a life enriched by family, love, and dedication.
Mary is survived by her loving children: Lisa Wilhelm and her husband Shawn, Rhonda Gillis and her life partner Willie, and Greg Gillis, all residing in
Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bennie T. Gillis, and their son, Michael “Mike” Gillis.
In 1958, Mary earned her degree in cosmetology. After the birth of her children, she found her true calling as a devoted stay-at-home mom. Mary cherished her role in nurturing her family and supporting her husband in his business ventures. Her home was a haven filled with love and warmth, and she took immense joy in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary had a deep love for reading, watching TV, and piecing together puzzles. She was known for her kind and caring nature, always speaking her mind with a refreshing honesty that endeared her to all who knew her.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Tuesday, June 25th, from 6 to 8 pm at Broadway Mortuary. A service celebrating her life will take place on Wednesday, June 26th, at 10 am at the same location. Burial will take place at Kechi Cemetery immediately following.
Mary is now strolling in Heaven with her beloved Bennie, reunited in eternal peace.
