Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Crystal LakeMary L. Halwix, 91, of Marengo, IL, formerly of Las Vegas, NV and Chicago, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. She was born on August 27, 1934 in Chicago to the late John and Anna Muschetto.
Mary lived her life with a heart full of love and joy. She devoted herself to her family, who were always at the center of her world. A passionate family historian and genealogist, she preserved the stories and memories that connected generations. She also embraced new technology, always eager to learn, explore, and stay connected. She found happiness in the simplest moments, whether gathered around a table playing cards, working on a puzzle, or sharing laughter with friends. She was the kind of person who brought light to every room and always knew how to make a good time even better. Her love, humor and warmth will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
Mary was the loving mother of, Ann (the late David) Min, the late John (Barb) Halwix, Sue (Jim) Falkin, Marty (Nancy) Halwix III, Kathy (Bill) Palivos, Betty (Mark) Swenson, Mauricio (Denise) Garcia; Proud grandmother of Martin IV (Jessica), Jennifer (Dustin) DeCroo, Erik, Brian, Michael (Sara), Lisa (Eric) Farber, Johnny (Courtney), Susan Min, Hillary, Samantha (Alex) Nelson, Willy (Pati) Palivos, Rachel and Taylor Garcia; Cherished great-grandmother of 18 with one on the way, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; her son John; her siblings and her parents.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 10 AM until the funeral mass at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, 323 North Taylor Street, Marengo, IL 60152.
