Mary A. Hamper, 92, from Ellicott City, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 1, 2024.
Born May 4, 1931, Mary was a lifelong Maryland resident. She was the daughter of the late Ambrose Blake and Mary Blake (nee Bavota). Mary was a graduate of Seton High School in 1950. She remained active on their reunion committee for many years. On July 8, 1951, she married Francis "Jack" Hamper, at the Cathedral in Baltimore City. They were married for 61 years until his passing in 2013.
Mary was the loving mother to Linda Hamper, John Hamper (LeeAnn), and Mary Topper. She was the beloved "Granny" to 6 grandchildren, Jason Hamper, Bryan Hamper, Eric Hamper, Lauren Fraser, Kevin Topper, and Megan Topper, and 5 great-grandchildren, Kaid, Korbin, and John David (JD) Hamper and Elliott and Cooper Fraser. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Hamper, her brother, Richard Blake, sister-in-law, Claire Blake, and son-in-law, John Topper.
Mary found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She spent many years in her much loved sewing club, butterfly club, and bowling league. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at her pool and taking bus trips to New York City. In recent years, Mary has resided in the Morningside House of Ellicott City where she enjoyed BINGO, painting, making jewelry, and pinochle. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
