Mary Ann Handy was born on July 22, 1934 in Adamsville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Morus Orr and Elizabeth Juanita Brumley Littlefield.
In April of 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Lee Handy of Villa Grove, Colorado. Mr. Handy retired from the United States Navy and preceded his wife in death on December 6, 1994.
Mary Ann spent her childhood in Adamsville, Tennessee. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church since she was 11 years old. She also attended school in Adamsville, where she became one of Adamsville's first cheerleaders at football and basketball games.
Mary Ann worked at Dunn & Bradstreet in Memphis, Tennessee, Dixie Cleaners in Pensacola, Florida, and Automotive Fabric Specialties in Adamsville, Tennessee. She enjoyed writing children's books and even had two books published. She was also an amateur artist. Mary Ann loved traveling and going to "The Come & See Kitchen" on Friday nights with her friends.
Mary Ann Handy departed this life on August 15, 2024 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 90 years and 24 days.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Handy (Penny) of Beech Bluff, Tennessee and Roy Handy (Nelda) of Adamsville, Tennessee; sisters, Anita Newman of Adamsville, Tennessee and Margaret Gardner of Jackson, Tennessee; grandchildren, Steven Handy (Whitney), Amber Rushing (River), and Lee Handy (Samantha Burton); great grandchildren, Rylee Handy, Kenzie Handy, and Colton Rushing; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Bingham.
The family requests Memorial Donations be made to The Come & See Kitchen or First United Methodist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee.
